    Why I Won't Sell You a Playbook

Every MSP coach has a system. It has a name, usually three capital letters, and a binder to go with it. The pitch is always the same. Run our playbook, hit our numbers, and you will get the business you always wanted. Pay monthly. Follow the steps. Trust the process.

I spent seventeen years in this industry, about half of those years inside one MSP, helping take it from roughly two million in revenue to a projected ten. I did not do that by running someone else's playbook. I did it by figuring out what that specific business needed, in that specific market, with that specific team, and then doing the unglamorous work of making it real. Some of what worked there would sink your business. Some of what you are doing right now, that a coach would tell you to rip out, is the exact thing keeping you alive.

That is the problem with playbooks. They are built backward. Someone runs one MSP, gets a result, then freezes whatever they did into a set of steps and sells those steps to a thousand owners whose businesses look nothing like the one the steps came from. I know exactly how that result happens, because I lived one. And that is precisely why I will not bottle mine and sell it to you. What worked in that business worked because of that business. The framework someone hands you is real. It just was not built for you. And when it does not work, the system never takes the blame. You do. You did not follow it closely enough. You did not buy the next tier. You did not believe hard enough.

I am not interested in selling you belief. I am interested in your business.

Here is what I actually think. Your model is probably fine. The way you packaged your services, the market you chose, the kind of clients you serve, most of that is sound. What is broken is rarely the strategy. It is the operating discipline underneath it. The margin you cannot see because nobody tracks it by client. The dispatch that runs on one person's memory. The sales that only happen when you personally make them. The team that cannot make a hard call without you in the room. None of that gets fixed by adopting a new philosophy. It gets fixed by an operator who has sat in your chair and knows where the bodies are buried.

I am not a guru. I have never stood on a stage and told a room of owners to double their MRR in six months. That number sounds great until you remember what it costs. A bigger business that needs you even more than the smaller one did. More clients, more fires, more nights you do not see your family because the thing you built cannot run without you. That is not winning. That is building a more expensive cage and calling it growth.

The goal was never a bigger hamster wheel. The goal is a business that runs without you. One that bills, delivers, sells, and makes hard decisions when you are at your kid's game instead of buried in your laptop. That is the whole point of doing this. If your MSP cannot survive you taking two weeks off, you do not own a business. You own a job that owns you back.

So when you and I work together, we do not start with my system. We start with your business. What you actually built, what is working, what is quietly bleeding, and what you want your life to look like on the other side of fixing it. Then we make that stronger. No franchise. No twelve steps. No binder gathering dust on your shelf next to the last three you bought.

This is harder than selling a playbook. A playbook scales. You write it once and sell it forever. Custom work does not scale like that, which is exactly why most coaches will not do it. It is easier to hand you a framework and tell you the problem is you. I would rather do the actual work and tell you the truth.

The truth is that you already know more about your business than any coach who has spent twenty minutes with your website. You do not need someone to hand you a map of a country you have lived in for a decade. You need someone who has run the chaos, who can look at your specific situation, name the two or three things actually holding you back, and stand in your corner while you fix them.

That is what I do. Not a system. An operator who has been where you are and refuses to pretend your business is the same as everyone else's.

If you want to know where to start, take the MSP Owner Reality Check. Five questions, nine minutes, and a straight answer on what is quietly capping your growth. No binder included.
